Centenary Heights is one of those suburbs where the houses look great from the street — well-kept brick-and-tile, tidy gardens, the kind of place where owners have clearly put money into their homes over the years. But you pull up to a job on one of those streets off Stenner Street and open the meter box, and you're often looking at the original 1970s or 80s setup underneath all those nice renovations. The bones of the wiring haven't always kept pace with what's happening inside the house.

That's the thing that catches a lot of homeowners off guard. They've updated the kitchen, added a couple of new appliances, maybe put in a home theatre setup, and suddenly they're tripping circuits they never tripped before. These houses weren't designed with that kind of load in mind. Same goes for ceiling fans — most of these homes were built before fans were standard, so the ceiling wiring just isn't there.

It's generally solid housing stock to work in, though. The brick-and-tile construction is straightforward, and because so many of these places have been renovated before, there's usually decent access. You're not fighting the house as much as you are with some of the older timber places closer to the CBD.
